چکیده

Background: The species belonging to the genus Acinetobacter are currently reported as opportunistic pathogens and shows multidrug resistance in hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to isolate the clinical Acinetobacter species from NFGNB (Non Fermentative Gram Negative Bacilli) other than Pseudomonas and analyze their antibiogram (antibiotic susceptibility) patterns. This study helps to know the persistence of antibiotic resistance and decide the optional treatment feasible for Acinetobacter infections. Materials and Methods: Acinetobacter species were isolated and identified by standard methods. For isolated cultures antibiotic susceptibility pattern was determined by the standard disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer’s disc diffusion method). Results: The total number of Acinetobacter species isolated during one year period was 235 (79.93%) from 294 NFGNB. The Acinetobacter species was predominant in catheter tip 95 (40.42%) followed by pus 42 (17.87%), samples. This study shows first-rate susceptibility to tigecycline (100%) and followed by imipenem 73.18%. Conclusion: This study states that there is an emergence of Acinetobacter species with increased rate of multidrug resistance in the area of study. Hence, it is important to determine Acinetobacter species form NFGNB in the neglected area and do further antibiotic susceptibility test for accurate treatment.

Antibiogram of Acinetobacter spp. isolated from various clinical specimens in a tertiary care hospital in West Bengal, India

Acinetobacter spp. are Gram negative coccobacilli causing various nosocomial infections. They possess different types of Beta-lactamases like SHV, TEM and others which lead to treatment failure in case of infections due to this pathogen. Studying their species distribution in various infections and drug resistance pattern is hence important. Hence our study was aimed to study the different infe...

Distribution and antibiogram pattern of Acinetobacter infections in Shahid Mohammadi Hospital, Bandar Abbas, Iran

Introduction: Acinetobacter species are important opportunistic pathogens, widely spread in hospitals' environment and responsible for different health care associated infections. Because of its ability to rapidly develop resistance to the major groups of antibiotics, treatment of Acinetobacter infections is difficult and antibiotic susceptibility tests can help in choosing the best antibiotics...

Detection of Metallo-Beta-lactamase Production in Rare Carbapenem-Resistant Non-fermentative Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Visakhapatnam, India

Introduction: Non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) are occasionally involved in infectious diseases pathology, but have shown resistance to multiple antibiotics and the capability to gain new resistance factors in the hospital environment. The present study was aimed to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of rare NFGNB isolated from different clinical samples and the pre...

Phosphorylation of Staphylococcus aureus Protein-Tyrosine Kinase Affects the Function of Glucokinase and Biofilm Formation

Background: When Staphylococcus aureus is grown in the presence of high concentration of external glucose, this sugar is phosphorylated by glucokinase (glkA) to form glucose-6-phosphate. This product subsequently enters into anabolic phase, which favors biofilm formation. The presence of ROK (repressor protein, open reading frame, sugar kinase) motif, phosphate-1 and -2 sites, and tyrosine kina...

A Prospective Study Comparing Functional Imaging (18F-FDG PET) Versus Anatomical Imaging (Contrast Enhanced CT) in Dosimetric Planning for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.

Objective(s): 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) is a well-used and established technique for lung cancer staging. Radiation therapy requires accurate target volume delineation, which is difficult in most cases due to coexisting atelectasis. The present study was performed to compare the 18F-FDG PET-CT with contrast enhanced computed tomogr...
